Back in the water with an underwater Scooter - Client Story

‘Hi, my name is Troy, I have been with community 365 for almost a year now, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years ago which has taken almost everything from me due to my increasing level of disability as a result.

I tried to navigate the system on my own and came up against a system that seemed to be designed to make it as hard as possible to make any progress at all. I was refused disability pension three times and was expected to work, and as a traffic control supervisor found this impossible.

I eventually received the disability pension after three years, I then applied for the NDIS thinking it wouldn't be hard to get accepted, but, even with the support of a neurology professor, who specialises in MS was refused four times, at this point I felt like giving up. That is until I decided to try an organisation that specialises in helping disabled people. After some research and enquiry, I decided that Community 3SIX5 seemed to be the best option.

So, I went and met Michael. This is when things changed.

After the meeting Michael submitted the application for me the right way. I was accepted into the NDIS and received my plan and funding and as a result am now able to return to some of the activities that I enjoyed in the past.

Due to the level of my disability, I need assistance with even the simplest tasks, and because of this the staff at community 365 have made it possible for me to return to scuba diving (I was previously a dive master).

I now have an underwater scooter which without diving would be impossible. I also have supporters to assist me with the things that I am unable to do myself which has made this possible.

I would like to thank community 365 for this, thank you all.’

-Troy, client.
